Without doubt the most vital part of an effective asbestos management strategy is making sure that everyone on your site knows about asbestos. No survey, not even a full access survey, is infallible and it is vital that your team is able to recognise the ACMs they are likely to encounter.
If people know what to look out for they are less likely to disturb something. The same people know when to stop a job and what to do to deal with the problem there is far less chance of an ACM being disturbed.
But what does awareness training mean for you?
It is important that any awareness training is matched to each group and to your company. While a plumber needs different training to a plasterer it is still important that they both understand what asbestos means to them and the people around them. Even people who you may not think are likely to disturb asbestos would benefit from awareness training. If all staff understand and are aware of the ACMs around them the chances of an incident are reduced.
