What do you need to do?
The first stage is to work out what you want the software to do.
Modus develops software using Rapid Application Development techniques. This means that there is no need for an expensive and time consuming detailed specification document so the cost of the application is kept as low as possible.
How do you keep the cost down?
The best way to keep the cost down is to limit the amount of work which needs to be done. If it is possible to take the work in a series of small stages then it is easier for you to retain control over the costs. In some cases the cost of a single stage can be less than a single user licence for many common off the shelf packages.
Also by taking small steps you can
Do you need a bespoke system?
Once you have an outline specification we would review the software products which are available off the shelf to see if they meet your needs. If there are products available which can be used or adapted then this is by far the most cost effective solution. The possibility of adapting existing open source products can also be investigated.
When will you see the results?
If the steps are small then you can receive your first version of the software in a matter of days. By staging the development work it is not only possible to fit the project around your budget but also to make sure that you can start using the software quickly and know that it is working for you before moving to the next stage.
What if you want to make changes?
The idea is to take development in small stages. One part of the system is developed and implemented. Any new features required since the specification stage can be addressed quickly at the next phase. By limiting the expenditure to small stages it makes it less likely that your money and resources are wasted and more likely that you’ll get the system that you need.
