Modus Scotland - CDM 2007 and good work control

The new CDM regulations which came into force in 2007 embody much of what good work control is about. It is very difficult to argue that it can be a bad thing to know who is working on a site, that they are adequately trained and supervised, that everyone is able to understand what everyone else is doing and that what is being built has been designed with construction and maintenance in mind.

Since the earliest version of the CDM regulations there has been a tendency to see the work of complying with the requirements of the law as a separate discipline from work control and effective health and safety management. Quite apart from not being an effective approach to good work control it tends to increase costs because more people need to be employed to complete the both jobs.

If your work control and safety management systems are correctly designed and operated then you will comply with almost all the requirements of the CDM regulations by default without the need for additional staff or systems.
