Modus Scotland - Where to start

As with anything the best approach is to start slowly. It is always possible to identify a small number of areas where control could be improved. These need not necessarily be the most important aspects of your maintenance or project works but could be an area where changes could be made quickly and easily perhaps involving only a small number of staff or carefully selected contractors.

The key to success is not to try to identify every detail from the beginning but to take one small area of your operations where you can test the theory and make refinements before extending the scope of the systems to a wider audience. It is also much easier to get support for new systems if it is possible to demonstrate actual improvements and benefits rather than purely theoretical ones.

Most importantly by starting small you also limit the time and money invested in the scheme until you are happy that it will succeed. By managing the work in small stages it is possible to define carefully each element and what will be achieved by the end. This makes it much easier to determine if you are getting value for money.
