Creating Management Plans

Keeping management plans up to date doesn’t need to be a full time job

Get the system right and it is easy

The role of the asbestos management plan in asbestos management processes is being emphasised more and more. These documents are intended as a complete but concise record of the asbestos in a building, what is being done to keep it safe and what to do in an emergency.

In addition those responsible for all stages of the asbestos management process need to be identified. Suggested formats for these plans are available but you need something that works for your particular situation.

It is essential that they are kept up to date and changes to roles and responsibilities must be reflected in the plans.

That is where the trouble can start.

Getting management plans right

Creating printed documents can be a painful task but with the right tools it is quick and easy

Design your management plan

What your management plan should contain is set out in the guidance published by the HSE. However, how that information is present ed will depend on your own situation.

The document must be designed with its readers understanding in mind if it is to be of any value.

Modus can work with you to create a plan which works for you, building managers and tenants.

When you are dealing with a large, complicated building creating a management plan that is easy to read is a tricky task but it can be done.

Be able to produce it quickly

The key to this part of the work is ensuring that all your data is recorded in a proper management system.

If floorplans, photographs, reinspection details and everything else you need is logged correctly then it is an easy task to pull this out into a report.

The the reports and associated guidance can be built into a single report at the touch of a button and saved in a suitable format for printing or emailing.

Modus can provide a system which achieves all this.

Keep it up to date

The major problem for many organisations particularly where schools and hospitals are involved is that staff keep changing. The management plan needs to reflect those changes.

On top of that the review of the plan needs to be tied to the reinspection programme the management plan reflects any changes in condition.

Finally the guidance or instructions given in the report will almost certainly need to change so it needs to be easy to change that.

Once all the changes have been made you need to publish the plan (yet) again.
